Rock 'N Roll Classics motors into downtown Georgetown Downtown Georgetown hosts a late summer's evening display of classic collector automobiles and live rock and roll music this Friday, August 25. The Rock 'N Roll Classics car show is a special event organized by a crew of dedicated car folk with the help of the downtown Georgetown BIA (Business Improvement Area). Starting with a dream in 2000, Lee Martin, owner of a small music store on the Main Street, brought together Mike and Lynne Boyd, Jim and Mary MacArthur and the late Scott Moore to help organize the event. The organizers were amazed and deeply appreciative of the local support received from everyone, including Emma Rock of the Georgetown BIA, the Mayor's office, Halton Hills Fire Department and the Halton Regional Police Service. Virtually every downtown business donates door prizes for the automobile participants. With the financial support of sponsors such as Georgetown Chrysler Jeep, Paul Armstrong Insurance Brokers Ltd., Dominion of Canada Insurance, CarQuest Auto Parts and countless others, this event has become an annual gathering of car enthusiasts. The show is now recognized as the region's last great hurrah for summer cruising celebrations before the fall seasons begins. The fun starts at 5 p.m. when classic cars of every make and description roll into old downtown Georgetown. Regular traffic is diverted from the downtown so the classic cars can park along the boulevards of Main Street from Park to Guelph Street and surrounding side streets. Upon entry to the show the 200 car owners are presented with a souvenir, a unique 45 record disc with the centre label commemorating the event. During the evening, car owners and spectators listen to great oldies spun by mobile disc jockey KRUZ radio and for added listening enjoyment, a classic rock and roll band, Rolly Rocker and the Hemi Heads, takes the stage. Opening act this year will be Maximum 60's As the evening proceeds, local car club members and automobile judges circulate through the show tallying up award winners for 18 show classes, including Mayor's Choice, Best GM, Ford, Chrysler etc., presented at 10:30 p.m. on centre stage. Special 50/50 draw this year includes a trip for two-- three days and two nights in either Las Vegas, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco or Reno sponsored by Georgetown Chevrolet. The big winner at the end of the evening is the Georgetown Hospital-- $3,000 has been donated each year for the past six years. As spectator admission to the show is free (donations are greatly appreciated), the organizers are grateful for funds raised through the 50/50 draws, raffle ticket sales, car owner admission and sponsor contributions. A great example of the collector car hobby helping people right in their neighbourhood. For further information, please contact Lee Martin at 905-877-9550 or Mike and Lynne Boyd at 905-877-1444. Friday, 5-11 p.m.
