Blood donor clinic set for Monday Canadian Blood Services is asking Ontarians, especially those 17-19 years old, to make blood donation a part of their plans for the last long weekend of the summer. The Labour Day long weekend is traditionally a time when blood supplies at Canadian Blood Services in Central Ontario Region need a boost. Across the country, highways are busy with families returning from summer holidays or sending loved ones off to school. This year Canadian Blood Services is faced with another difficulty: Blood donations from 17-19 year-olds decrease by 40 per cent over the summer months (June to August) compared to the average for the other nine months of the year. The impact of the three-month hiatus presents a challenge for Canadian Blood Services to collect sufficient supplies of all blood types to meet demand from patients in need. A blood donor clinic will be held Monday, Sept. 4 at the Salvation Army Church, 271 Mountainview Rd. S. from noon to 4 p.m. For information visit www.blood.ca, or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
