University tourney is new ground for Jones EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Although he has already graduated from the University of Western Ontario with his teacher's college degree, Andrew Jones' university days are not officially over just yet. Jones, who turns 25 on Sept. 15, is in Szeged, Hungary this week for the World University Squash Championships as a member of the five-person Canadian team. He qualified for the tournament by winning the Black Knight Canadian Universities & Colleges men's squash title back in April in his fifth and final year at Western, after losing in the championship match the previous four years. Jones, of Georgetown, said he is confident about his game and is curious to see how he stacks up in both singles and doubles' competition against the other 20-or-so countries that will be represented. "I really don't know what to expect," said Jones, who is ranked 54th by Squash Canada and has competed in world junior tournaments previously. "My teammate from Western, Iain Crozier, is going to be my doubles' partner, so it's going to be a little bit different in that aspect because I've only played a little bit of doubles here and there. It should be pretty exciting." Jones, who's been playing out of the Georgetown Racquet Club this summer, is making his trip an extended tour of Europe, traveling to London, Spain, Italy and Greece before playing in the tournament. His home club raised $1,000 for the trip at its club championships a couple of months ago.
