It was the first time that many of the Georgetown track athletes participated in the provincial championships. In the Mite girls' (grades 1-2) 100m dash, two Georgetown Thunderbolts, Riel Flack and Chelsea Dixon, qualified for the final. Flack is currently the fastest Mite girl in Ontario, capturing the 100m gold medal in a time of 17.37. Dixon was not far behind in a time of 18.01. Flack continued her winning ways in the 200m where she captured her second provincial gold medal in a time of 36.97. Dixon was fourth in the Mite final, as well. Staying with the Mite girls, Flack completed the championships by picking up a silver medal, to go along with her two golds, in the long jump, while Dixon earned a bronze medal in the same event, jumping 3.16m and 2.90m, respectively. In the Atom girls' (grades 5-6) 400m final, Thunderbolt Courtney Chambers captured the bronze medal in a time of 1:08. Riel Flack (left) and Chelsea Dixon of the Georgetown Thunderbolts enjoyed strong performances at the Ontario Minor Track & Field Championships in Toronto. Flack scooped up two gold medals and a silver, with Dixon getting a bronze medal in the long jump. Submitted photo Local golfers fare well in GAO tournaments Georgetown golfers fared well in a couple of Golf Association of Ontario championship tournaments held over the past week. Mary Ann and Richard Lapointe teamed up to shoot a one-over-par 73 to finish in a tie for third place, just one shot back of the winners at the GAO Mixed Championship at Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge. At the GAO Baka Wireless Men's Public Player Championship this week, local resident Bryan Rothery recorded rounds of 76-77 to finish second at +9, four strokes out of the lead in the B Flight at the Osprey Valley Golf Club in Mississauga. Georgetown's Tim Jones led after the first round in the C Flight with a 78, but a second-round 91 dropped him into a tie for seventh place.
