Miss Acton pageant accepting entrants The Miss Acton Pageant is still looking for contestants for this year's event. The pageant, which has run in conjunction with the Acton Fall Fair since 1963, will be held Friday (the opening night of the fair) at Prospect Park at 8 p.m. Contestants must be between ages 16 and 22, attend Acton High School or live in Acton, Ballinafad or Rockwood. The pageant format consists of a private interview with the panel of judges, an on-stage appearance and welcome greeting and a twominute prepared speech on a pre-approved topic. After the initial judging is completed, finalists are chosen and are asked to answer an unknown question. Judges will be looking for the ability to make people feel comfortable, friendliness and attitude, public speaking ability and presentation and poise and control. Contestants are to bring two outfits the night of the pageant. The first is to be conservative (something you would wear to an office job interview) and the second outfit must be formal and reflect how you would want yourself to be portrayed if chosen Miss Acton. Make-up services will be available the night of the pageant. An evening rehearsal is also planned for tomorrow (Thursday). The winner will represent the town of Acton and the Acton Agricultural Society for the next year at numerous events, including an agricultural convention in February at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto and the annual CNE Ambassador of the Fairs pageant in August. One of the year's celebrity judges will be Global TV's entertainment reporter Roz Weston, who grew up in Acton.
