Acton artist displays art at Main Street Inn The Main Street Inn of Georgetown features artwork by Sandra Hancock for the month of September. Though Hancock's formal education is in graphic design and illustration, she left the field to pursue painting at home while raising her two children. Her girls provided the initial inspiration for her "mermaid series". These paintings unveil an imaginative, carefree world rendered in acrylic, copper and beads. (The mermaid above is entitled "Syreenah".) This led to her latest works-- a number of 3-D mixed media collages. These paintings include everyday objects from daily lives "cast off" to become "found treasures" rescued from junk drawers to thrift stores. Hancock's work was shown this summer at the Glen's Williams Mill and the juried show, at the Wellington County Museum. Past exhibitions include Milton Arts Festival, Halton Hills Cultural Centre with painter Wynne Paquette, and Guelph Arts Festival. She also produces limited edition giclée prints, greeting cards and does various portrait commissions. The works currently showing at the Main Street Inn, 126 Main St., South, range in price from $90 to $900. For more information about Hancock's work, contact her at 519-8533305.
