Urinetown and Oliver will grace the stage for the 25th anniversary season of the John Elliott Theatre, while You'll Get Used To It (The War Show) will go on at the Globe Hall in Norval. Urinetown opens Globe's season and runs November 23 through December 2. It was an award-winning musical both on Broadway (three Tonys) and in Toronto (six Doras). It is a spirited send-up of musicals and their conventions. Urinetown is a musical comedy tale of corruption, greed, love and revolution set in a city where water is worth its weight in gold. A strong cast of Globe regulars, along with some new faces, is already well into rehearsal. You'll Get Used To It, also known as The War Show will be presented at Globe's rehearsal hall in Norval. The show traces a squad of Canadian soldiers from their enlistment at the start of the Second World War to the final victory in Europe. From the rambunctious comedy of their boot camp days, to meeting girls in England, to the terrors of D-Day and beyond, this play captures the essence of the time through humour, songs and drama. The show runs February 1 to 10. Globe concludes its season May 10-19 with Oliver, the timeless musical classic based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. Currently a smash hit at the Stratford Festival, Globe's Oliver will bring to life Dickens characters such as Fagin, Bill Sykes, Nancy and of course, Oliver himself.
