Local racer Elliott claims second championship of the year After capturing the Flamboro Speedway title a few weeks ago, Acton's David Elliott claimed his second championship of the year, the 2006 Weekend Warrior Series title, with a thirdplace finish at Peterborough Speedway's Fall Colours Classic. The 34-year-old Elliott only needed to start the feature race to earn the championship-- a title vied for by drivers from six tracks across southern Ontario. As was the case all year, Elliott spent the race battling for the lead. In total, the Lucas Oil Chevrolet found victory lane 15 times in 2006-- including wins at Flamboro, Peterborough Speedway, Varney Speedway and top-three finishes at Delaware and Kawartha Speedways. "Last year we just weren't competitive when we visited other tracks," said Elliott. "This season we stepped up our program and managed to be contenders at every track we visited." The foundation for Elliott's title came from consistency at his home track-- an impressive average finishing position of fourth at Lucas Oil Flamboro Speedway. In fact, during the 18-race season, Elliott finished in the top five 16 times.
