Blakelock 1-1 last Thursday at Georgetown's Alcott Arena. Alex Desmond was the lone CtK goal scorer. In their inaugural season in the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association's varsity boys' hockey league, the Jags' record was 2-1-1 heading into Tuesday afternoon's road trip to Burlington to face Aldershot. The Jaguars will host Holy Trinity Thursday starting at 2:50 p.m. Basketball T.J. Fry led all scorers with 18 points as his Acton Bearcats required overtime to defeat host Milton District 63-60 on Monday in an HSSAA senior boys' basketball contest. Volleyball Acton's junior Bearcats swept guest Milton in two games Monday, 25-9, 25-21, in girls' action. Setter Cara Lyall and power hitter Julia Soderholm keyed the Bearcat attack. Raiders struggle to subdue Sabres Continued from pg. 21 fought back the entire game though, and that's what it takes against teams like Burlington. If we're going to make a dent in the standings, we have to play with that playoff intensity the rest of the way." Spencer Metcalfe, Whelan, and Matt Carter rounded out the Raider scoring and Keaton Hartigan made 31 saves to earn the win in goal. Captain Wade Finegan added four assists. On Saturday night, the host Raiders fell behind 2-0 in the opening period to Buffalo and fired close to 50 shots at Jr. Sabres' goalie John Dorman before they could pull out a 3-2 triumph. Ryan Lee notched the winner on the power play in the third, with Adam DeJong and Carter adding singles. As expected, the 16-7-3-3 Raiders dealt one of their 20-year-old netminders last week as Shawn Mahoney-Wilson was sent to Newmarket for 19-year-old goalkeeper Marc Stuart. The move allows the club to get down to the league limit of nine 20-year-olds who can dress for each game. Stuart posted an 8-2-0-0 record with Oakville last year and played a key role in the Blades' surprising run to a West Conference title this past spring. The Dallas, Texas native didn't suit up on the weekend for the Raiders. He had a 1-3-0-0 record with last-place Newmarket and went 5-4-1-1 with Pickering this season. Georgetown is his fifth OPJAHL team in the past year. Second-year forward Marc Marchese, with just four points in 27 games, was traded to the Vaughan Vipers. It's not known whether Stuart will start in this Friday's trip to Streetsville or in the Raiders' home date Saturday versus Oakville at the Alcott Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Eamonn Maher can be reached at emaher@independentfreepress.com) Local speed skaters earn medals Three Georgetown residents who are members of the Milton Speedskating Club brought home some medals and personal-best times from a recent competition in Brampton. Twenty clubs and 230 skaters from as far away as Rochester, N.Y. took part in the races staged by the Brampton Speedskating Club at Century Gardens. Twelve-year-old Philip Geng earned a gold medal in the Midget division with race times of 45.3 and 43.17 seconds in the 333-metre event, along with 1:04.62 and 1:04.65 over 500 metres. Charlotte Geng, 9, skated to a bronze medal in the Cradle category in the 55 metres and 110 metres, while five-year-old sister Lydia placed 10th in the Bantam division with times of 1:00.96 and 59.83 for 333 metres, combined with 39.55 and 40.37 over 222 metres. The Halton Hills contingent of the Milton club, which trains out of the John Tonelli Arena on Wednesday nights, has picked up a few new members over the past months.
