All of the brigade units are asked to make contributions to local food banks and the donation targets for this year's campaign is 50,000 lbs. in non-perishable food items. On Dec. 9 the Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin & Halton Regiment) answered the call. Unit members brought in an estimated 13,000 lbs. to the Todd Rd. armoury. "I am impressed by the combined effort made by all the soldiers of the regiment," said Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Tim Orange. "Each year we set a goal for donations, and each year they surpass it. It reflects their charitable spirit and concern for the people within the unit's area." Georgetown Bread Basket will distribute the donations to food banks throughout Halton Region. Local councillors front and centre at region Halton Hills' regional representatives will all have prominent positions on Halton Region committees in 2007. Wards 3&4 Regional Councillor Jane Fogal was elected as chair of the Administration and Finance committee, after serving as vicechair in the previous term. During her one-year tenure, Fogal expects the committee will be tackling important issues such as renegotiating with the province the cost of services and setting new development charges. Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette has been elected vicechair of Planning and Public Works committee, a position he's held many times before in his longtime service at the region. Top issues affecting Halton Hills to be dealt with in 2007 will be the Durable Plan, which includes Georgetown urban expansion and the road widenings of Steeles Ave., Winston Churchill Blvd. and Trafalgar Rd. Wards 1&2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville has been elected vice-chair of the Health and Social Services committee. Bonnette says this is first time that all three Halton Hills' regional reps are serving in a leadership capacity at the same time.
