Source of the Song returns to the Glen GLT talent compensates If you're in the mood for a little heartwarming music close to Valentine's Day, the next Source of the Song songwriter's concert will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2-5 p.m. at the Glen Williams Town Hall. Hosted by songwriter Bruce Madole, the special guests for this event will be Gregg Lawless, Darcy Lynne Ward, and Juanita Wilkins. Lawless is a world traveler whose immensely entertaining, high-energy concerts leap from pop to folk to Celtic to blues to ragtime at the drop of a guitar pick. Ward is also a veteran performer, who won the Best Country Music award at the 2005 Toronto Independent Music Awards, and was selected to perform at the CCMA's Songwriters Café. Wilkins is a singer-songwriter who has parlayed her vocal and songwriting skills into a new CD, Stronger, and a rising profile. While the show is not specifically a Valentine's Day show, Madole admits to choosing a lineup with some musical chemistry in mind. "We've never held one of these concerts in the winter before," says Madole, "so we hope this will help people to put the winter blahs behind them, and enjoy some heartfelt music. The concerts are set up in a format that is known as a "songwriters round", where all of the songwriters take the stage together and take turns performing. There's always a special magic in that people's songs weaving together over the afternoon like a kind of musical tapestry and you get the stories behind the songs, and sometimes, a little instant collaboration. We've had a lot of great musicians perform, the kind of artists who can quickly, even instantly, read where another artist is going musically, and think of something to complement and support that. The end result is almost invariably magic, and the word is spreading. Last year's two shows were sold out, and that's part of why we've added an extra concert in 2007, just to build on that success." Tickets for the show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and are available at Marlene Madole's Studio 7 in The Williams Mill, at Best's Harbour in Glen Williams, or by contacting Bruce or Marlene Madole at 905-4599753 or brucemadole@sympatico.ca for poorly written play Continued from pg. 11 Watching the plot unfold makes one wonder if a few pages of the script had been misplaced. Admittedly, the plot has many twisty-turning moments, with something of a surprise ending, but it's not quite enough to pull it out of the fire. From a production point of view, the set was quite basic, but effective, and lighting was well executed-- the two aspects giving the play a good visual presentation. For the most part, the cast of Rehearsal for Murder is a young group, some members having made their way through the ranks of the GLT Youth Company. It's encouraging to see members from the Youth Company moving up and tackling some of the full length GLT plays, but unfortunate they had to cut their teeth on a play of this calibre. The play continues its run this week.
