Library sees circulation soar Circulation of materials at the Acton and Georgetown branches of the Halton Hills Public Library at the end of 2006 was up 14.4 per cent from the previous year. "Last year was already a recordbreaker at 14.6 per cent, now we are looking at a very impressive two-year increase of 29 per cent," said Library Director Jane Diamanti. Borrowing has been increasing steadily since 2000 (up 49 per cent), with the largest jumps occurring between 2003 and 2006. "There is every sign that residents are using their public library more fully, not just for the traditional book borrowing service, but also to check out audio books, DVDs, popular magazines, and to join in on our excellent children's programs," said Diamanti. The year-end statistics also indicate growing usage of the extensive magazine databases that the library members can freely access through the website at: www.library.hhpl.on.ca. All that is needed is a valid card from Halton Hills Public Library-- available at no cost to anyone who lives, works, owns property or goes to school in Halton Hills. Diamanti is excited about the upcoming renovation and expansion of the Georgetown Branch, scheduled for completion in early 2010. The Facility/Site Study for Acton Branch is expected to begin in 2008.
