Police blotter Additional charges laid against pair in series of local break-ins Halton Police have laid additional charges against two people charged last month in connection with break-ins into condominiums at a McFarlane Dr. building and Park Ave. apartments in December. The new charges relate to break-ins into homes on Pomeroy Court and Roane Ave. last year where more than $150,000 in jewelry was taken. Charged with two counts of break and enter is Nicole Colleen Gienow, 27, of Owen Sound. Gienow, a corrections officer at Metro West Detention Centre, and Tom Kabosos, 30, of Toronto were charged by Halton Police in January with five counts of break and enter with intent to commit an offence. Kabosos was also recently charged with two additional counts of break and enter. ··· Halton Police are investigating break and enters into several mobile homes at Smallwood Acres Trailer Park on Dublin Line, Acton that occurred sometime Saturday or Sunday. Four trailers were entered after the door was forced open but at press time it was unknown if anything had been taken. Damage in each case was approximately $200. Unsuccessful attempts were made to break into three other trailers in the park. Damage in those incidents is estimated at approximately $50 each. Region fines recycling firm for delays in collection The wallet of Halton Recycling Ltd. is a little lighter after Halton Region imposed penalties for delays in garbage pickup in the last few weeks. The penalties for 19 violations, including incomplete collection or extended hours at the landfill site, amounts to $18,000 so far in 2007. In 2006, a total of 112 violations were issued, with $78,000 in penalties imposed. Halton Recycling Ltd. told the region staff that the most recent delays were due to cold weather. However Region staff said other municipalities did not experience any delays due to the frigid cold. Staff say there are ongoing concerns with Halton Recycling Ltd. due to maintenance failures and staffing.
