Letters to the editor CAShh needs April canvassers Dear editor, Spring is a time of growth and revitalization. Unfortunately, Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh) has experienced huge growth and needs to provide practical services to more than 600 cancer patients and their families. Of course, it takes a whole community to make this happen. We depend on the revenue from our annual April residential campaign as our biggest source of income. We are not funded by the government, nor do we receive any grants. We are solely dependent on the generosity of a community that truly cares. This community is growing and it was necessary to restructure the campaign. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with area co-ordinators, team captains and canvassers that take on specific tasks to get the job done. What do we need? We need more people who specialize in giving! CAShh needs canvassers! Can you canvass for a few hours during the month of April? By doing so, you can make a difference one street at a time. Be one of Halton's most wanted. Please call 905-702-8886. Anna Mae Moore, CAShh Residential Campaign Chair Trees along roadway would have prevented accident Dear editor, Re: March 7 editorial, Roadside tragedy. I take exception to your comment "sometimes accidents simply happen" and am disgusted with our provincial government. There is no such thing as an accident-- they can all be prevented. Most of the crashes and deaths that occurred in southern Ontario Monday, March 5 could have been avoided if all municipalities and the provincial government had good trees planted along every road and highway on the prevailing wind side, thereby creating a wind barrier as they used to do with snow fencing. This would stop the deadly whiteouts that are becoming more common. All hydro and telephone lines should be moved to the opposite side away from the trees. Since we appear to be adopting a green philosophy the trees would also help the environment. Don't say it can't be done, since expropriation is commonly used when governments want something, so an easement should be relatively simple. Frank Spingola, Erin Red Cross appreciates support on a chilly day Dear editor, We would like to thank the warm-hearted and generous people who reached into their pockets and helped us raise $864 for the Red Cross on Saturday, March 3, outside the Georgetown Beer Store. Even though it was a cold and windy day we were kept warm by the enthusiasm and willingness of all who donated. Phil and Pat Evans, Georgetown
