Plans in works to expand to seven screens Cinema back in operation Friday EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer After a couple of months in limbo, Georgetown Cinemas 3 will re-open its doors under new management this Friday and preliminary plans are to expand the theatre to seven screens from the current three. Toronto-based Premier Theatres has assumed control of the theatre's operations from longtime local resident Danny Edwards and is offering "welcome back pricing" of $4.20 per movie ticket at Premier's Georgetown Cinemas 3, the theatre's new name. The Guelph St. theatre ceased operations Jan. 28 as Edwards sought a new ownership group to run the business. "We are very pleased to bring back first-run films to Georgetown," said Brian Allen, vice president of Premier Theatres, whose decades-old company owns the 5 Drive-In in Oakville and the Starlight Drive-In in Hamilton. "Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will all be playing here in May." Eric Ball, president of Cambridge's Independent Booking/Slide Screen, which will manage Premier's Georgetown Cinemas 3, said a complete renovation of the building is in the works to provide more film variety and accommodate more moviegoers. "We're negotiating a deal with the landlord to expand the facility into a seven-plex similar to the Galaxy in Milton with four large stadium seating theatres," noted Ball. "We believe that the market in Georgetown and Halton Hills deserves more than what they've had here previously." The cinema will be featuring three first-run movies this weekend-- Disturbia, Perfect Stranger and Are We Done Yet. All films will play two evening showings and two matinee showings on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday parade will mark Vimy anniversary A veterans' parade will be held in Georgetown Saturday afternoon commemorating the 90th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. from the Georgetown Legion Branch 120 with the service dedication to the United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at 2:30 p.m. in Remembrance Park.
