Artists and artisans wanted for spring show Alloa Public School seeks artist and artisan vendors for its May 12th arts and craft show. Artists of all mediums welcome. Alloa Public School, located at 1248 Mayfield Rd. will be hosting the show on May 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a fundraiser for the purchase and installation of playground equipment, and will have in addition to the show, a 50/50 draw and refreshments available for purchase. Admission to the show is free. The installation of playground equipment includes painted asphalt games, sports equipment and traditional playground toys. The Alloa school council has made a commitment to purchase all the equipment and apparatuses for the future playground, which will cost an estimated $25,000 or more. Council raises funds throughout the year with pizza days, as well as a fall fundraiser selling QSP. The money raised by the arts and craft show will be specifically set aside for use only on the purchase of playground equipment. For many Georgetown Globe members it's just as much fun and entertaining to work on as a family! Georgetown Globe Productions' revival of Oliver! boasts a number of families who are sharing in the pleasure and hard work of putting on a show. There are five parents performing onstage alongside their children, three sets of siblings performing together and two of the directors are given the daunting task of teaching their own kids blocking and singing. Oliver! also has a husband and wife team producing the show and many other parents, spouses and children pitching in behind the scenes. One family has all of their members involved, with mom and two daughters performing onstage, while dad wields a hammer offstage building the sets. Working together on a production allows the families to spend quality time together and creates memories that will stay with the kids for a very long time. Where else can a child hear their parent telling them to yell at the top of their lungs, crawl under a table or jump up on a bench? As one young girl says, "I like performing with my mom because we get to spend more time together, we get to learn together, and we get to goof around together!" So grab your kids and plan a family night out to see Oliver this spring at the John Elliott Theatre in Georgetown. John Sommer art exhibit continues The John Sommer Juried Art Exhibition takes place at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre Gallery until April 30. The exhibition is named in honour of longtime resident John Sommer, who has been instrumental in promoting the arts in town for many years. Craft and artworks include two or three dimensional media, painting, sculpture, jewellery, photography, glass, ceramic, fibre, handpulled prints.
