12 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, June 6, 2007 BACK TALK By Dr. Gabor Madarasz Tennessee gospel groups to sing at charity concert Saturday PAUL ZOMER AND JANINE BERGSMA Special to The IFP Two of southern gospel music's best will be in Georgetown this Saturday for a concert in memory of Georgetown native Dan Lane. Renowned groups, Greater Vision and Triumphant Quartet, will make a rare appearance in Canada for the concert, which is in honour of Lane, a southern gospel enthusiast who passed away in 2002 at the age of 31 after a battle with cancer. The concert will be held at 6 p.m. at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church on Trafalgar Road, with proceeds going to Georgetown District Christian School. Greater Vision's appearance in Georgetown will be one of just three Canadian concerts this summer for the group. Greater Vision's resume includes an appearance on the popular Sunday night Bill Gaither special. The group had a personal connection with Lane, and has been a regular at the annual concert held in his memory. "This concert is to remember Dan but also to enjoy a night of gospel music," said Lane's father, Gary Lane, whose family has organized the annual concert since 2003. "We expect laughter, tears and a night of great entertainment from these two groups." Triumphant Quartet is another popular American southern gospel performing group. Their busy schedule will have them singing in Tennessee on June 7, in Georgetown on June 9, and then back in Tennessee the next day. Tickets for the Dan Lane Memorial Gospel Concert are $25 and available through Gary Lane, 905-873-7565 or through Georgetown District Christian School, 905-877-4221. T VAL BILLINGSLEY Georgetown Honda would like to congratulate Val for being awarded Honda Canada's Customer Care Leadership Award, for her outstanding work. This honour is presented to the top Service Managers throughout Canada. here is probably no better advocate for chiropractic care than a patient whose life has been changed by it. Geri Carlson is just such an individual who was so moved by her life changing experience, that she decided to write about it. Her book, "I Stand Amazed: How Chiropractic Saved My Life" chronicles her journey from desperation to amazement. I came across this on my weekend away, celebrating 25 of marital bliss at Niagaraon-the-Lake. As described in her book, published in early 2007, Geri awoke one late January morning in 2004 and as she put it, "My world was about to collapse." On that morning she awoke and was having trouble breathing as well as a feeling of "numbness in her brain". She had difficulty focusing or even performing simple tasks. She felt like she was "jumping out of her skin" and she believed she was going to die. Over the next several weeks the sleeplessness, hysterical crying, and myriad of other symptoms left Geri at wits end. Her visits to a variety of medical doctors produced no answers and only served to fuel her desperation. At one point she felt hopeless and was barely able to speak when one physician, who was offering new medication told her it would take several more weeks to know if the medicine could help. At this low point having lost hope, she uttered, "I won't be here." It was at this low point that Geri started care with a chiropractor she had gone to some time ago. Not to give the book away, but in her words the results were, "Miraculous, instantaneous, and amazing." The drastic change in her life that resulted from her chiropractic care led her to write this book. Although scientific evidence and studies are always a welcome addition to any health care process, a patient`s responses are the ultimate goal. "I Stand Amazed" by Geri Carlson is a testament to how chiropractic can change the lives of people during the darkest of health times.
