14 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, June 22, 2007 Ailing cat desperately needs foster home Unless a foster home can be found immediately, time may run out for a stray cat picked up this week in the Charles and Mill St. area of Georgetown. The black male cat that has a white patch on his chest had been roaming in the area since last fall and was picked up Wednesday by resident Michelle Paisley. She took the cat to her veterinarian in Hillsburgh because it had wounds on its face. The cat, ready to go to a foster home, was treated, neutered, micro-chipped and is currently on a two-week course of antibiotics. However, it can't stay at the vet's office because, while being treated, a blood test revealed the cat, estimated to be about four years old, has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Paisley said the cat, described as "gentle as can be," is not suffering any ill effects from the disease, which cannot be passed to humans or dogs, but other cats are at risk of catching it. Therefore it can't stay at the vet's office, the Upper Credit Humane Society (UCHS) or in a home with other cats. Unless a suitable foster home is found for the cat by noon tomorrow (Saturday), it will be euthanized. Paisley said the UCHS will advertise the cat on its website and attempt to find him a permanent home while it is being fostered. Anyone who can temporarily foster the cat is asked to call Paisley at 647-220-6474 or 905-8779258 by noon tomorrow.
