Acton/Georgetown, Friday, June 22, 2007 31 ENTERTAINMENT The Georgetown Choral Society (GCS) sung in St. Mary's Church in Killarney (above) to appreciative audiences during a recent six-concert tour of Ireland and in turn, GCS members appreciated the wonder of The Giant's Causeway (right) during a sightseeing stop. Photos submitted The GCS returned recently from a very successful tour of Ireland. "It is a beautiful country where music is part of their soul, and the trip allowed about a quarter of our group with an Irish link of some kind to connect with their roots," said GCS President Mark Burns. "We sang in many churches, some dating from the 12th century, and were moved by the appreciative audiences who often gave us standing ovations. "Apart from the spectacular beauty of the Emerald Isle, the people are very friendly and shared our love of singing. We appreciated learning of their rich history, their wonderful stories, and the fact that the "Celtic tiger" is now a prosperous and peaceful country. "Overall it was a terrific experience, and all of us thank all the people in Ireland who welcomed us so warmly and even directed us to secret places where we could look for leprechauns and fairies. I have to admit, we did not get to see any, but we did get to learn the vital distinction between "blarney" and "baloney". The GCS looks forward to performing Handel's Messiah in its next concert in Georgetown, December 14-15. Honda races. You win.
