Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, July 25, 2007 5 Teens, adult facing charges Two Mississauga teens and an adult are facing charges after a stolen SUV collided with a transport truck at Sixth Line N. and Steeles Ave. just before 2 a.m. Friday. Halton Police say the accident happened when an SUV traveling south on Sixth Line failed to stop for the stop sign at the Steeles Ave. intersection and was struck by a westbound transport truck The driver of the SUV, a 14year-old male, was trapped in the vehicle that had rolled and was extricated by fire and ambulance. Two other males in the SUV-- one a youth and the other an adult-- fled on foot and were found about 20 minutes by officers and a police dog. All three occupants of the SUV received minor injuries. The driver of the transport wasn't injured. Investigation revealed that the three males had stolen vehicles in the Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga area using the vehicles to travel to rural areas to commit thefts from unlocked vehicles. Police found stolen electronic equipment in the SUV and have returned the items to victims in the Sixth Line area. Off-duty recruit credits training Continued from pg. 1 "Like a training exercise, where everything just fell into place, I was just at the right place at the right time." He credits the fire department's Emergency Patient Care Unit with providing him with the training required. Smith said he was on "cloud nine" after the little girl started to breathe. "I'm still on cloud nine. It's a great feeling," said Smith, an LCBO employee, who said Lilly is only the third baby he's held. Halton Hills Fire Chief Brent Marshall commends Smith for his quick actions and credits his life saving success to his "training and his calm, controlled response to the emergency." "Everyone is proud to have Scott as a member of the Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services," said Marshall. Both Lilly's parents plan to take an infant CPR course, and the fire department urges everyone to learn CPR. For further information on CPR courses contact the Red Cross at 905845-5241.
