The exhibition - which opened at Town Hall on Monday - is entitled “Simulacra: Myths From the Penultimate Future” and features 41 framed works on paper and three sculptural pieces. The artist employs images from a variety of sources such as magazines and pho- tographs then isolates and recom- bines them using scissors, glue and color photocopies. Oakville artist launches series According to organizers of the WA TDI NEY HO EVI E0 Presented will be a varied con- cert of string repertoire including Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, Jean Sibelius’ Romance for Strings and Gary Kulesha’s Divertimento for String Orchestra. Featured will be soloist Marilyn Burch playing J.S. Bach’s Piano Concert in D Major. Art Works exhibits local artists and craftsmen in five locations through town. Chamber Ensemble In 1988 Kasperbauer moved to town and a year later participated in the Oakville-Neyagawa Art Exchange. “Simulacra: Myths From the Penultimate Future” marks his first Canadian solo exhibition. Central Baptist Church hosts a performance by the Oakville Chamber Ensemble this Sunday at 8 pm. Admission to the concert is $5 at the door. The Oakville Chamber Ensemble includes 19 amateur and professional musicians which performs two main concerts each year at Central Baptist Church and is now in its eighth year of operation. “Art has the capacity to Iran- scend the everyday, to increase the awareness of our place in the world,” says the artist, who also works with video, film and music. “Simulacra” (basically some- thing made to resemble some other thing) represents Kasperbauer’s effort to allow both himself and his viewers to connect with the world of dreams and myth. show, “The rearrangement of images of people, places and things produces works that are powerful, politically charged and humorous. “Kasperbauer scavenges for frames in the same way he looks for images, collecting frames (from) a number of sources such as second- hand stores, garage sales and antique stores. He makes no attempt to hide the frame’s history; frames are worn, refurbished and embel- lished.”
