It may been a few notches shy of his personal indoor best but Oakville‘s Alex Zaliauskas certainly wasn‘t complaining. The 21â€"yearâ€"old Oakville native finished second in the men‘s high jump at the Hamilton Spectator Indoor Games Friday at Copps Coliseum, clearing a height of 2.26 metres. "It was a good jump, which is usually an indication that the year ahead will be good," the former Queen Elizabeth Park student said. Zaliauskas made the 2.26m height in his first attempt but failed in his three attempts when the bar was moved up to 2.29m. Not bad considering his perâ€" sonal best his 2.28, which he‘s done twice, most recently in a meet in Germany last year. Tony Barton of the U.S. won the event with a leap of 2.29m. "This was one of my highest openers for an indoor meet. Everything went well. I‘m pretty confident with the way I‘m jumping right now." Zaliauskas, who finished second to Thom McCants of the U.S. at least year‘s Games, was back in action Sunday at the Athletics Grand Prix event at the Claude Robillard Centre in Montreal. He again finished secâ€" ond, although his height was only 2.21m (tying him with Kenny Banks of the U.S. and Barton, although Banks did 2.21m in less attempts. o "I was a bit tight," said the University of Toronto Track Club member. Christie tied a National Football League record when he booted five field goals in Bills‘ 29â€"10 victory over Miami Dolphins in the American Football Conference championship, Sunday in Miami. The former Oakville Trafalgar High School student tied the mark for most field goals in a championship game, set by Matt Bahr in the 1990 NFC final. Christie was good from 21, 33, 21, 31 and 38 yards. He would have broken the mark had he not been wide left on a firstâ€"quarter attempt from 38 yards. Two of the area‘s best hopes for provincial titles were both shot down: Mary Susan Snow at the OLCA challenge round and John Base at the men‘s regionals. For Snow, it was her last chance.
