A 14.6 per cent increase in car sales last month at Ford of Canada, was not enough to offset a 30 per cent decline in truck sales for January. The result saw the Oakvilleâ€"based company post an overall 6.1 per cent decline in vehicle sales for the month compared to the same period a year ago. Ford officials say there was good news from the sales figures since it marks the second consecutive month where car sales increased over 1992 results. In December, Ford‘s car sales rose 11.9 per cent. "Back to back sales increases of this magnitude suggest a recover in the automobile market may be gaining momentum," said Ted Goellner, viceâ€" pres.â€"general sales. "There‘s pentâ€"up demand ouot there and car buyers have apparently heard the news from Statistics Canada that the recession is over."
