Despite not guilty verdict, regional police will honor Go Transit officers for their help in arresting suspect The Halton Regional Police are honâ€" oring two GO Transit officers on Monday for their part in the arrest of a Toronto man in connection with the bruâ€" tal assault of a 17â€"yearâ€"old Oakville girl on a GO train in October, 1991. Plaques will be awarded to the two GO officers even though the suspect, Terry Michael Ekins, was cleared of all charges at the conclusion of a trial last fall. "We‘re recognizing their assistance in the GO train assault investigation in 1991. Unfortunately that raises a lot of questions," admitted GO assault case investigator and Halton Regional Police media spokesman Sgt. Joe Martin. The GO officers, Gordon Chong, 39, and Paul Kretchman, 24, will be recogâ€" nized with plaques Monday. "These are two young officers and we‘d like to pass along our thanks for assisting us. We are more than satisfied with what they‘d done," said Martin. In the GO train assault case, the charges were dismissed on what the judge said was a lack of evidence. In October 1991, a 17â€"yearâ€"old Oakyville girl boarded a Torontoâ€"bound GO train to attend a concert in Toronto. Alone in the upper level of a car, the woman was attacked from behind, choked unconscious, dragged to a downstairs train washroom, choked unconscious a second time and sexually assaulted. A week later, the two officers observed Ekins on a GO train and when the man agreed to be questioned by police, waited with him until Peel Regional Police arrived. Ekins was later arrested on numerous charges including aggravated sexual assault, choking and unlawful confineâ€" ment. € t C ¢ Yavavarararar ay ay ay ow av aw av ow aw ow ow av ow av ay ow av All white meat!
