But Liersch questioned the valueâ€"of some ambulance workers acquiring skills they‘d rarely be called upon to use. The paramedic said it doesn‘t make a lot of sense to have taxpayers paying for medicallyâ€"trained fire department personnel when properlyâ€"trained ambulance workers could do the job. He said heart attack victims, for instance, have a better chance of surâ€" vival in Hamilton where paramedics are on duty. Liersch said his operation is involved in Advanced Life Support training, defibrillation skills the first of four categories officers will be trained in, as soon as the ministry okays the funding request. Armes urged local residents to call the Ministry of Health or their local MPPs and ask why there isn‘t one standardized ambulance service in the province.
