Student wins MBA trade competition Cole Dolny of Oakville and Aldo Van Gelder of Don Mills teamed up as one of the top 10 out of 18 winning entrants in the first Canadian MBA competition on world trade, "FAR HORIZONS". Sponsored jointly by Hongkong Bank of Canada and Queen‘s University School of Business, the competition was open to all MBA students in Canada enrolled in courses with an international emphasis. Doiny‘s and Van Gelder‘s winning paper â€" entitled, Hong Kong and Canada â€" An International Business Opportunity, was submitted by Professor Alexandra Campbell of York University. Competitors were asked to submit a paper of approximately 2,500 words related to the inaugural theme, Dealing with the Dragons, â€" focusing on trading partners Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia â€" and the impact of these "dragons" on Canada. Each course professor was ‘allowed to recommend one student paper for review by an impartial panel of three judges from the academic community across the country. The winning entrants, and their professors, will receive fully paid travel to, and accommodation, at a twoâ€"day conference at Queen‘s University in Kingston, on March 12thâ€"13th. In addition, the top 10 winners will present a summary of their paper at the conference, and their papers will be published in the proceedings. With the March 1st midnight deadline quickly approaching, finding time to make that lastâ€"minute RSP contribution may seem like a lost cause. But thanks to a yearly tradition by a group of insomniacs at Royal Bank‘s telebanking centre, everyone‘s worst RSP nightmare can easily become a financial dream. In order to ease the lastâ€"minute crunch, Royal Bank will once again open RSP accounts and accept contributions over the phone until midnight to March 1st. It‘s all part of a service called "RSP by Phone Midnight Madness" which is available across the province by calling tollâ€"free 1â€"800â€"668â€"9700. The last day for your 1992 RRSP contribution is Mon. March 1st. Now would be a good time for you to conduct a RRSP audit. The process is simple. Reassess your current RRSP investments. Is each investment still appropriate? Has your financial situation changed? During the last few weeks, you and millions of other Canadians have been making RRSP investment decisions. This is the time of year that you will probably be the most focused on your RRSP portfolio. One question to ask is: Would you reâ€" purchase the same investments today as the ones that your currently own? If not, should you consider repositioning some funds? There is nothing requiring you to change your RRSP portfolio, but if things have changed, then often your portfolio will need to be adjusted.
