By BARB JOY Halton Police Chief James Harding was applauded for his proâ€" gressive measures in making the region‘s police services more culturâ€" ally diverse by a multiâ€"cultural employment consultant in Oakville last week. "He‘s just real clear and unequivâ€" ocable about diversity," Armour said. "He‘s produced some of the most progressive police officers who are now becoming police chiefs in other forces around the country." She praised James Harding for his proactive measures in making Halton‘s police services more culturâ€" ally diverse by initiating such proâ€" grams as the Police Ethnic and Cultural Education Program (PEACE) and a race relations comâ€" mittee. The first fosters a closer understanding between ethnic youth and the police department. Among the goals of the committee, which includes representation from the multicultural community and the police, is discussion of the appropriâ€" ate response to any incident with racial overtones that the Halton police might encounter in their line of duty. Armour, founder and head of Transcultural Consultant Services, was speaking at the monthly meetâ€" ing of Oakville District Personnel Association at the Holiday Inn last week.
