_ The theft occurred sometime overnight March 2nd to 3rd. Photos stolen from car Halton Regional Police said the photographs were stolen from a 1981 Pontiac when someone smashed the driver‘s side window. If Halton‘s request is approved, it‘s likely the two extra members would be in place by September. The board asked the region in December to consider the expansion. Photographs worth about $200 were stolen from a car parked on Marine Drive early last week. Police services boards in Peel, Niagara and Waterloo have all recently increased the size of their boards to seven members. He said the police services board is also looking at forming its own budget committee to work closely with the regional budget committee. Quinn said increasing the board‘s size is also necessary because of the added workload from new provincial policies and legislation, such as disentangleâ€" ment and employment equity. "It‘s very important we have equal representation on the board," he added. "It would give the province four members, one from each community, and three members would be appointed by regional council," Quinn said. If the province approves the region‘s request, the board would be increased by one regional councillor and one provincially appointed member respectively. A fifth position on the board â€" vacated by Oakville member Karen Thompson â€" has yet to be filled by the province. The posiâ€" tion is expected to be filled soon. There is currently no representaâ€" tive from either Oakville or Milton on the board. The board currently consists of two provincially appointed memâ€" bers â€" one from Burlington and the other from Georgetown. It also has two regional councillors â€" Quinn and a Georgetown Mayor Russ Miller. Under the Ontario Police Services Act, a regional council may apply to the Lieutenant Governor in Council to increase the police services board‘s size if the region‘s population exceeds 300,000. Halton Region has about 318,000 residents. The Ontario government is currently considering a request from Halton Region to increase the size of its fiveâ€"member police services board by two members. "There would be extra people to do the extra work," said Quinn, a Burlington regional councillor. When it comes to the size of the Halton Regional Police Services Board, bigger is better, according to board chair Barry Quinn.
