We can learn from one Under the plan, an officer will spend the day at work and then have dinner and spend the night at the home of an Oakville resident of a minority culture. After a week, they‘ll exchange â€" the resident returning home each evening to the officer‘s residence â€" maybe even accompanying the offiâ€" cer on a patrol or to a meeting. It‘s said you don‘t know someâ€" one until you‘ve walked a mile in their shoes. The Halton Regional Police are hoping that living with someone for a week might do the job, too, as a new program gets underway pairing volunteers, both police and commuâ€" nity members of varied racial and religious backgrounds, to spend a week living with each other in their homes. By ANGELA BLACKBURN Oakville Beaver Staff The program was recently launched by Oakville‘s new superâ€" intendent Richard Kivell who is looking for interested volunteers. Police say the incident began around 11:10 p.m. Friday, March 6th when the cab driver picked up four male passengers from a Southview Road, Oakville address. Their destination was the 7â€"11 convenience store on Kerr Street. "While they were driving, the suspects were rowdy, yelling and screamâ€" ing and got into a dispute about the route being taken," said Det. Sgt. Graham Bames. At Bond Street and Mary Street, the cab driver pulled over and ordered the four men out of the cab. When the four men got out, a pushing match ensued and police said the cab driver was assaulted by at least two of the passengers. When severâ€" al other cab drivers arrived at the scene, the suspects fled. Police say they expect to lay charges in the incident. The cab driver, an Oakville resident driving for Halton Taxi, was resâ€" cued when several other cab drivers came to his aid. After chasing his assailants away, the other cab drivers took the injured driver to Oakville Trafaigar Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. The man received cuts to his knuckles, a cut on the right side of his forehead and soreness near his kidneys. A 46â€"yearâ€"old Oakville taxi cab driver was assaulted by at two men after ordering four rowdy male passengers out of his cab en route to the Kerr Street 7â€"11 store late Friday night. The study would review existing Official Plan designations and determine the merits involved in changing land use, Salisbury said. Emphasis would be place on the area‘s relationship to the Cross Avenue GO Station, Oakville Transit, transportation systems and gateway features, he said. Also to be included would be urban design guidelines and specific analysis of land use. Salisbury recommended that two sites which are located within the study area be exempt from the study and that they "should continue through the normal planning process." The two sites â€" Kaneff Properties Limited and Genstar Development Company â€" are linked to the town‘s opportunity to construct the Speers Road/Cornwall Road extension, he said.
