Alan Sprague, 82, retired judge Grade 9 destreaming â€" the elimiâ€" nation of basic, general and advanced level courses in the first year of high school â€"won‘t be delayed for a year, the Halton Board of Education announced Wednesday. Board will start destreaming in Sept.. With a deferral until September 1994 recently made available to school boards from the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training, based on "valid and compelling reaâ€" Judge Sprague was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario. He graduated from Queen‘s University in Kingston, Ontario, then went on to Dalhousie Unversity in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he received his law degree. He was called to the Bar in 1938. A funeral service was held Wednesday for Alan B. Sprague. Sprague, a retired Ontario District Court judge in Halton, died at his Oakville home, Tuesda. He was 82. During the Second World War he served in the Canadian Army, Judge Advocate Generals Branch. After the war, he continued practicing law and was appointed a Queen‘s Counsel in 1960, and was an active counsel in eastern Ontario. Judge Sprague was a life member of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice, and a member of the Canadian Bar Association â€" Judges section. He also served on the executive of the District Judges assoâ€" ciation. In 1965, he was appointed as the Chief Judge for the District of Halton in Milton, where he remained until his retirement in Octoberâ€"1985. . He is survived by his wife, Mary Victoria Lake, children James, Edward, Mary Jeanette and grandchildren Mark, Shawn, Amy and Andrew. These courses can be applied to a University of Waterloo degree and/or a Renison College Social Work Certificate. Register in advance or at the first class.
