H6 â€" Homes â€" Wednesday, March 17, 1993 "The importance of windows and doors in your home cannot be overâ€"estimated", says Paul Merritt of Ridley Windows and Doors. There is a lot of confusion in the marketplace as far as product, design, and the selection of options. Ridley Windows and Doors is a very unique company in today‘s marketplace. Ridley does not have one or two product lines as with most companies, but has selections from all product lines available. , When it comes to windows & doors, seeing really is believing Windows can be maintenance free wood, aluminum, or vinyl. Doors can be steel, wood, or comâ€" posite. Columns can be wood, aluâ€" minum, or fibreglass, and archiâ€" tectural moldings can be a high density polymer. The trend is toward maintenance free products and more architectural detailing. Ridley is located in Campbellville, just south of the 401 on the Guelph Line. The 6,000 sq. ft. showroom is intended to be a customer‘s aid â€" to let them see and touch the product in applications they are buying. These products are installed throughout the complex. It helps the customer envision the product in their own home. There are two facets to Ridley‘s business: the supply only segment for new home construcâ€" tion, additions, or the doâ€"itâ€"yourâ€" selfers; and the total installation and warranty segment for the homeowners who want to replace windows, doors, create new bay windows, change a window into a patio door, add moldings, etc. The company has an extensive product line and manages its own installation crews. This is a very unique approach and allows Ridley to retain control of the job. Ridley customers essentially elimâ€" inate the middle man as Ridley assumes total responsibility. Windows and doors have a tremendous influence on the architectural appeal of a home. When selecting these products, there are numerous aspects to be considered such as the architecâ€" tural integrity of the structure, the curb appeal, the lifestyle expectaâ€" tions, as well as, overall proporâ€" tion (width to height), coordinaâ€" tion with others on the same face, glass content proportion to room size, geographic orientation. As an example, let‘s take the architectural integrity of the strucâ€" ture. The sales representative helps in the design process to maintain the integrity of the home‘s appearance. The selected products should look as if they were a part of the original strucâ€" ture. If the window concept looks like a new style in an old home, the character of the home is disâ€" turbed and it may never look right. The same is true of a frame that looks too heavy for the size of the openings. The appeal to a new home buyer could actually lessen and the cost of the renovation might not improve the saleability of the home, but actually lessen it. The measure of a good replaceâ€" ment is that it doesn‘t look like one; the measure of a good design is cohesiveness; the measure of a good addition is integration with the parent structure. However, all these facets must satisfy the cusâ€" tomer‘s expectations. All windows and doors are not created equal. Most customers are aware of this so now it becomes a matter of wise choices. Many homeowners today know the basics of what they want to achieve, but find very little help available to guide them in achievâ€" ing it. Ridley‘s design sales team offers this service. Ridley‘s sales approach is innovative. They design and then sell. But before they design, the sales rep. must first ask questions. He then listens to those issues that are important to the homeowner. Then the sales rep. will help the consumer select a product to fill those needs. The wide product range allows the sales rep. to be creative in his design approach. Anv technology is available. Any technology is available. For example, Ridley offers two wood window lines, as well as, aluminum or vinyl. They never imply to the customer "This is the only window that I sell, but it is exactly what you want". Our cusâ€" tomers are more selective! They know what needs are of utmost importance to them;, for example, a formal look in the living room â€" more light, durability, mainteâ€" nance, stainability, and budget. Our sales staff are trained to listen to the customer‘s needs first and then give them the options that fill those needs. Ridley customers are approach. Ridley has another approach that customers may also appreciâ€" ate. If they have selected Ridley‘s installation option, we send out an installation manager who meaâ€" sures the product and dictates the detailing to be ordered. He will, also, review the contract with the homeowner and interface with the actual installation crew the day of the installation. In this way, Ridley maintains control of the whole job and Ridley guarantees both the product and the workâ€" Registration fees are $11 for RBG members ($10.25 for members 65 years of age and over) and $12.25 for nonâ€"members. Registration must take place by April 8th at the centre or by calling 527â€"1158 ext. 270. Cheques may also be mailed out to: Royal Botanical Gardens, P.O. Box 399, Hamilton Ontario, L8N 3H8. He will show how common houseplants can improve our indoor air and our health. Handout literature will include the latest findings from the U.S.â€"based Plants for Clean Air Council. The Royal Botanical Gardens is sponsoring an illustrated talk on Indoor Plants As Air Purifiers on Tues. April 20th from 7:30 p.m.â€"9:30 p.m. at the RBG Centre, 680 Plains Rd. W. in Burlington. _ Indoor plants as air purifiers ippreciative GERRIE â€"~LECTRIC of MA xF this manship for five years. The trend in the construction industry is toward maintenance free products. Architectural moldâ€" ings have now reached this techâ€" nological stage. Ridley‘s moldings are made of a high density polyâ€" mer. Unlike wood, they will not rot, warp, or swell. To the human eye, you cannot tell the differ ence. The interior moldings are as intricate as plaster moldings, but are much easier to apply. This revolutionary concept is being extremely well received by the construction industry.
