The OMHA obtained an Ontario Court injunction Friday from Mr. Justice H. David Logan of Lindsay, preventing its insurance coverage from being terminated or disrupted by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. The unher- alded Marauders beat the Brandon Bobcats 106-89 Friday and upset top-seeded Concordia Stingers 84-83 Saturday before succumbing to a fresher St. Francis Xavier outfit in the title game, Sunday, 72-64. The team--and Francis-had more than paid their dues. McMaster was making its first ClAU tournament appearance in six years and first appearance in the national final since 1970. Only a last-minute wild-card bid got them in this year's tournament. Poetic justice somehow isn't the appropriate term. For Oakville's Shawn Francis, the season has been nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster as a start- ing power forward for the McMaster University men's basketball team. The pressure for Francis. a 20-year-old former White Oaks Secondary School star, was greater. In early September his father passed away with a stroke. Instead of living in residence, Francis decided to live at his Oakville home to provide moral support to his mother. The CAHA had informed the OMHA it would no longer be part of its membership as of March I and therefore could not participate in CAHA programs or be eligible for insurance. We were a little tired (and) a lot of our out- side shots weren't falling." Uphill climbs were not foreign to the team, so rally- ing from a 13-point deficit against Concordia didn't come as a surprise. A pair of Francis free throws gave Mac a 60-59 lead with 13:55 remaining but Mac need- ed a Marc Sontrop bucket with five seconds left to pull out the win. The night before against Concordia, McMaster's game didn't end until about midnight "and we didn't get to sleep until about 3 am," said Francis, who scored 13 points against the Stingers. National team coach Ken Shields told Mac coach Joe Raso he felt Francis should have made the all-tour- nament team.
