TN \\\ï¬-;/f'/»"‘ï¬Ã©\».\ Dedicated to the memory of By HOWARD MOZEL Oakville Beaver Staff If sunlight represents all that is good in life then the paintings of Wilma Stamm‘ler must do so as well. Stamm‘ler‘s watercolors are flooded with light but they are anything but paintings created with grand themes in mind. In fact, the artist gathers inspiration from the everyday facets of life many people simply ignore. "I like to paint things in and around the house. I don‘t need to go veryâ€" far" afield.">â€"says Stamm‘ler, who adds that she would be as inspired by an apple as a trip to Thailand. In fact, Stamm‘ler‘s work â€" now on display at Bronte Harbour Fine Arts â€" contains lots of apples, a nod to fond childhood memories of the artist and her father. One work, appropriately titled "Apples," allowed Stamm‘ler to explore the subtle nuances of light and shadow and a variety of deliâ€" cate hues within the simple strucâ€" ture of a mound of fruit. In response to Stamm‘ler‘s disâ€" like of winter ("Six months with no color") the show includes "Last Flowers of the Summer Garden." In this piece the artist is able to refine her feelings through the image of blossoms preserved â€" at least temporarily â€" in a glass of water. Stamm‘ler‘s _ unblinkered approach to the world is the result of a "wisdom that comes with age" as well as years of painting and experiences that have taught her toâ€"not only look, but to see. Though she refers to her view as a "dreamworld," Stamm‘ler mainâ€" tains a steady level of pressure in order to ensure that she excels. "It‘s not a hobby. It‘s not even a job. It‘s a passion," she that artist, who paints up to five hours each day and usually produces one painting per week. To say that Stamm‘ler has an upbeat philosophy of life is a gross understatement. Having lived all over the world, including Africa, she sees no reason whatâ€" soever to be miserable residing in Canada. Worrying about a second car seems rather selfâ€"centered and silly when compared with the vast scale of human hardship that exists all around us. "People here don‘t know what they have," said Stamm‘ler. "I‘m very happy." Bronte Harbour Fine Arts is located at 45 Bronte Rd. Call 825â€" 3248.
