I An anonymous tip led Halton Regional police to a Churchill Avenue apartment in Oakville early Sunday morning where they found two Wall Street Journal news boxes, adjustable pliers and a magnetic strip for removing coins from the boxes. A 16-year-old Oakville boy and 17-year-old Oakville boy were each charged with possession of stolen property and possession of break-in instruments. The 17-year- ld was also charged with breach of robation. The competition between the 33 classes taking part in the food drive They came up with the idea of making the food drive a competition between homeroom classes, the win- ner of which. would receive a pizza party. In order to make the competition fair and balance out the number of people in each participating class, Liang and Robey measured donations on a per capita basis. Two Oakville young offenders were subsequently charged in con- nection with the goods. The tip, which police said Was an "anonymous complaint", was received shortly before the 4:20 a.m. visit to the apartment Sun. April 18th, said Det. Sgt. Peter Hodgson. Liang, who has been a volunteer with the food bank for two months, came up with the idea for the food drive just before March break. From there, he approached Robey, and they spent much of their March break plan- ning the food drive, "By far, this is the largest single donation from any high school," said John Quesnelle, a volunteer at the food bank. As well, any class that brought in at least six items per person will receive a "Civvies Day," courte- ous of Loyola Principal Mr. Meyer. Money for the pizza and donuts was raised by collecting a $4 entry fee from each participating class. The Fareshare Food Bank's annual Easter Food Drive fell short of the goal of collecting 60,000 pounds of food. The Fareshare Food bank feeds about 400 families every month. Because of the decrease in donations this year, the food drive has been competition was stiff. with each clas continually trying to out do each other said Liam. A total ofb.576 items were brought in to the school over a nine day period, more than doubling Liang and Robey's original goal of collecting 3,000 items. Over 2,300 items were brought in on the last day, as classes battled for first place.
