Dear Oakyville: On our first day in Natal, Brazil, south of the Amazon where we had previously explored on our first semester of the voyage, we spent the day exploring in dune buggies. They were great. We spent the first part of the day driving over the sand dunes. Driven by professionals, the buggies were very fast and several times I was sure we were going to flip over and roll down the dunes. Our first stop was at the top of an exceptionally large dune where a group of youths were selling toboggan rides down the dune into the sea. Our next stop was at a fresh water lagoon where we all went for a quick swim. There the locals were selling deep fried potato balls. They had cheese and chicken in the centre and were very good. Then we were off speeding down the beach again until we came to a major river which emptied out into the ocean. The dune buggies drove up onto small log rafts on which we were poled over to the other side. For lunch we stopped at a special seafood buffet where we sampled some of the local cuisine. It was very good. There was as much fresh fruit as you could eat. Some varieties of the local fruit we had never even heard of before. That evening we went to a camival. There were costumes and music and the streets were packed with people dancing all night long. By the time we got back to the Concordia, we were totally worn out. The following day we were given shore leave and most of us spent a relaxing day at the beach before setting sail for Rio de Janeiro. Until next week, Our Oakville head office staff, branch sta associates, wish Sarah more memorable adventures, and continued 5 sailing. AAAAA "If you love coffee, this is the place for you." That translates into an increase of $400 per single family unit and 42 cents per square foot on the nonâ€"residential charge. â€"sidewalks required on regional roads have been included in the new charge. "This change has repercussions throughout the study in terms of stanâ€" dards and growth projections to 2001," she said. "The philosophy of development charges is that development should pay for itself. Ratepayers shouldn‘t have to pay the costs of growth," Seguin said. But Pau! Mondell, chair of the UDI‘s Halton Chapter, said the develâ€" opment industry is "absolutely outâ€" raged" by the town‘s actions. "It‘s a very serious situation that has to be addressed in a significant way," he said. He said those opposing the bylaw include Halton and Hamilton home builders and developers. "It‘s not being taken lightly," Mondell said. He said UDI appealed the town‘s 1991 bylaw to the Ontario Municipal Board. The 10â€"week hearing is slated to begin on May 17th at the Oakville Municipal Buildings. Seguin said while UDI‘s appeal of the 1991 development charges bylaw provided the impetus for the town‘s review, the OMB hearing and the proâ€" posed amendment to the bylaw are not necessarily related.
