Included BY HOWARD MO Oakville Beaver akville‘s fire chief will Ospearhead discussions with Halton‘s other fire departâ€" ments in an effort to test the feasiâ€" bility of a moneyâ€"saving regionâ€" wide dispatch system. Although this study will also seek to identify other opportuniâ€" ties for consolidation, there is no plan afoot to establish a single fire department within Halton. To do so would actually increase costs if a volunteer department like that in Milton went fullâ€"time. Town considers regionalizing fire dispatch system Streamlining the dispatch sysâ€" tem was recommended by Ward 4 councillor Mark Brown and approved Tuesday night by the Town‘s Community Services Committee. The full council will vote on the matter Monday. If passed, the four fire departâ€" ments will have until March 1994 to look into the matter before reporting back to council. According to Brown, the 1992 budgets for each of Halton‘s municipalities indicate that, colâ€" lectively, the region‘s taxpayers are spending approximately $800,000 â€" or $200,000 on averâ€" She invites her old and new customers to visit her at her new location. e Consumers Distributing * The Bay * Hair Stylist * Fiberglass Nails Staff Oggi‘s Hair Creation 372 Kerr Street (416) 844â€" 7779 age â€" to send firefighters where they‘re needed. "This average is consistent across the region, regardless of the composition of the fire departâ€" ment, whether it be volunteer (or part time) full time or mixed," said Brown. He went on to explain that in the United States shared dispatch systems have proven that savings are indeed possible. For example, Ohio‘s Colerain Township Fire Department developed an integratâ€" ed dispatch system with 35 surâ€" rounding counties with "substanâ€" tial savings as well as enhanced service levels." At the core of Brown‘s reasonâ€" ing is the need for fire protection services to meet the needs of a rapidly growing region while never losing sight of the demands on the tax dollar. "Given the labor intensive nature of fire fighting, and the critical importance of this service to our communities, fire departâ€" ment budgets are predestined to increase," said Brown. "At the same time, the four area municiâ€" palities are well aware of the need to manage our revenues and strategic resources in the most effective manner possible." Brown made it clear that is recâ€" ommendation is not intended to eliminate volunteer departments or lay off existing employees. Any savings, he said, will come from reduced facility and equipment costs. "It is far better not to have to raise tax money for duplicated serâ€" vices than it is to raise the funds, spend them and then find a better way to have accomplished the task at hand," he said. * Waxin * Manicure Pedicure Oakville, O air Cisationsa formally from Bev‘s Boutique zut Direcst ntario
