The real estate picture brightened substantially last month with figures from the Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board showing a 21% increase in the draiar volume of real estate sales over May, 1992. Area real estate sales totalled $51.7 million last month, up from $42.6 million in May 1992 and $48.1 million in April, 1993. The number of sales also increased last month, to 246 from 234 one year ago and 240 in April of this year. “The increase in dollar volume appears to stem from a greater number of real estate sales in the higher end of the market,” said Oakville, Milton, and District Real Estate Board President Richard Weima. “A close look at our monthly statistics shows that only 10% of our residential sales last month came from properties priced at less than $150,000’ seven per cent were priced at $400,000 or more.” While the figures seem to spell good n€ws for local vendors, Weima said people should still moderate their price expectations in order to minimize their length of time on the market. In May, 1992, by contrast, 16% of all sales were in the $150,000 orâ€"less price range and only four per cent sold for over “Current mortgage rates continue to be extremely competitive and attractive and it is certainly an excellent time to buy,” he Real estate sales rebounded in May ’B USINESS ITHEOI said. “Even so, it would be misleading to suggest to people that the demand for property is strong enough to cause a price increase.” “Builders are offering strong bonuses and aggressive incentive programs to home buyers today in order to complete sales in what is still a very tough market,” he said. Pearson and Shaw designed a series of nutrient supplements and commissioned Life Supplements Inc. of New Jersey to e x c l u s i v e l y manufacture the “designer foods and high performance formulations” they now produce. And, indeed, nutrition experts wonder if they’re for anyone. Certainly, the nutrition department at the Region of Halton is somewhat skeptical. Nutrition Educator Jessica McKay noted that supplements won’t turn a poor diet into a good one and that a balanced diet and adequate sleep are essential to maintaining a healthy body. Instead of popping a pill for energy, for instance, she suggested a nutritious diet and physical activity. “Energy comes from the calories in the food you eat,” she said. “The vitamins in food help to convert food into energy but they do not supply energy by themselves.” She further noted that neither the products nor the Life Extension book has been endorsed by the Canadian Dietetic Association.
