So another day begins in this region. Later in the day, it was It was exactly when we exited our car that the rains started. Lightning in Bordeaux is unlike anywhere else. Flat and only slightly above sea level, there are no individual flashes, but a steady illuminated sky and thunder so loud that the buildings shake. The party was wonderful! There were some great foods and even betâ€" ter wines. I actually never realized before how many different B G wines we have in Canada. There is, certainly, a lot more to this company than the wellâ€"known B G Cuvee Speciale and I promised myself that, if I did not get swept away that night by the flood into some strange vineâ€" yards, I would taste all the B G wines back home. It was on those grounds and within the Chateau itself, that we were exposed to some of the great wines that are produced today by the B G Winery. Some of the best chefs were brought in from every corner of the world for this event to prepare typical foods to be matched with the wines and Champagne. I drank some of the outstanding white Bordeaux that offers a fullness that can be attributed to the Semillon grapes, their freshness to Sauvignon blanc, and the fruity taste to the Muscat grapes. Those wines are listed in Ontario under CSPC 19133 for slightly over $10. Another white which I enjoyed that night was the Barton Guestier Sauvignon blanc which also is a regular listing in Ontario for about $9.25. France has always been known for its wonderful cheeses and I must have sampled them all with the French wines. Especially impressive was the red B G Medoc â€" a wellâ€"made Bordeaux wine that in spite of its youth is right now very drinkable. Listed under CSPC 26260 for $11.65, it should be drunk at cellar temperaâ€" ture and opened an hour before servâ€" ing to realize its full potential. Chateau Magnol â€" just outside the city of Bordeaux â€" is a very attractive and large, singleâ€"storey estate within a 70 hectare parkâ€"like setting. Although relatively new as French chateaus go, one can only guess how the estate got its name. The party was great. I made many new friends and drank some very good wines that night. But, as things go, there are also thunderstorms, heavier than any of us have ever seen before; and rain, of course, that turns lawns and gardens into rice paddies within minutes. Those of us who remained were rewarded with great wines, good food, and many new friends. decided by one of France‘s premier E, wine producers, Barton Guestier, 0 known simply as B G in Canada, to J hold a party â€" a party to end all parâ€" < ties.
