Oakville resident, John Lillico, has been reâ€"elected president of the Piano Technicians Guild, Toronto Chapter, for a second consecutive year. Lillico, 51, came to Oakville in 1977 and opened a piano retail store and service centre on Lakeshore Rd. W. He learned the art of piano tuning at the Ontario School for the Blind in Brantford. A short four month stint with a piano manufacturer in Hanover, Ontario led to selfâ€"employment as a technician back in 1964. "Pianos have been both my hobby and livelihood," he exclaimed. He joined the Piano Technicians Guild in 1969 after passing their rigid examinations at a convention in Calgary. Ten years later, he organized a weekend seminar in Oakville and the Toronto Chapter evolved from that. Oakville resident reâ€"elected as head of Piano Technicians Guild Over $8.8 million in sales in 1993 Thanks To You "My elders have provided both the freedom and the opportunities of life, and this is my way of repaying my debt to them â€" through music," said Lillico. As onâ€"site coordinator, Lillico has travelled to St. Louis, Portland OR, Dallas, Philadelphia and Sacramento with Milwaukee coming up this July. Close to 300 hours of instruction are planned over a fourâ€"day period. More than 1,000 piano tuners will attend from around the world. Aside from pianos, he most recently began managing the career of Oakville tenor, Giorgio Longdo. He‘s also finalizing plans for an entertainment agency catering to senior citizens.
