(Cont‘d from Pg.15) But Pridham said he recuperated well so the fact the temperature was * even hotter for the match against the sixthâ€"seeded Nestor wasn‘t a factor. But even more support from the merchants and town is needed if the event is to climb back to the leve] it was two years ago. **Next year we hope to be a lot bigger. We‘ll meet as early as this September for next year‘s tournaâ€" ment. Everything should be just "I had nothing but positive comâ€" ments from people about the tourâ€" nament," said Sciberras. "~They loved the people and the parks. They told me how nice the town was and that they‘d be more than happy to come back." Everybody has got to get behind us," he said. I believe if we get more people interested in working towards the tournament and putting in more hours we have the power to be a great tournament." Sciberras is thankful for all the support that local merchants have given the tournament and for the topâ€" rate facilities provided by the Town of Oakville. **We ask that the businesses in town support the game and we‘ll try to bring as much business into the town as possible during that weekâ€" Sciberras is optimistic about the future of the tournament The decline in numbers though hasn‘t meant a loss in quality, according to Sciberras. He believes the tourney is still firstâ€"rate juding by the comments from several visitâ€" ing players and parents. *~We definitely need more volâ€" unteers," he explained. It always falls on the same shoulders and you end up burning out these people. And once you start burning out these people then you start deterioâ€" rating." A shortage of volunteers hasn‘t helped matters either. There‘s just too much work and not enough peoâ€" ple. Sciberras can‘t say enough about the volunteers he has now, but admits there‘s only so many times you can go to the well before it dries up. Timing has been the other reason for the decline cites Sciberras, espeâ€" cially for teams south of the border. A regional cup in the U.S. is held at the same time and many U.S. teams can‘t confirm their entries until June which is too late for tournaâ€" ment organizers. Pridham pleased with conditioning *‘We had to close down that division and send the four teams that I had to the Robbie (tournaâ€" ment)," he explained. "I regenerated extremely well â€" there was no fatigue. I was very pleased that way. I just couldn‘t win the following day." The economy has also affected the number of European entries This year only one team, an underâ€" 19 team from Slovenia, put forth an application and Sciberras still had to send it to another tournament because of low numbers in the diviâ€" sion. Nestor‘s serve though was a difâ€" ferent story. Being a southpaw Nestor‘s deliveries were difficult to read, Pridham said. "Even on my serve the points were relatively short. Daniel either has a very good return or it‘s an «erTOr." (Cont‘d from Pg.15) down,‘‘ he explained. It‘s important how you advertise and execute the timing. The timing is very important." "I couldn‘t get a grip on it," he said. "He was serving hard and he varied it. He moved it around enough that I could not get any thythm going. The spin on a leftâ€" hander‘s serve is a lot different than a right hander‘s. Saturday‘s outcome marked third straight year Pridham bowed out in the semiâ€"finals said he‘s not losing sleep over being able to get over the hump 20 "It‘s not frustrating. I‘ to do it against next year going and do my best. I win the title. Tourney needs volunteers "I haven‘t figured it out (how to get over the hump) â€" I don‘t have an answer." Meanwhile Oakville‘s other entry in men‘s singles, Martin Wostenholme, was knocked out in the quarterâ€"finals by Sznajder Friday. Scores were 6â€"3, 7â€"5 (7â€"5). Wostenholme was seeded ninth while Sznajder was second. ome marked the ir Pridham has semiâ€"finals. He g sleep over not ar.
