"It‘s been an excellent partncrshlp, DeVries said of the purchase... ... DeVries said Dualtec Electronics was once owned by Magna International. Omron purchased the company back in 1991, he said. The company currently manufactures 51,000 units per day at the facility and has annual sales of $20 million. He said the company is working on expanding its business with Chrysler and Ford. DeVries said the company has a similar facility which is located in St. Charles, II1. _"We‘re the only relay company in the U.S. that has the GM Target for Excellence Award. We have an excellent overall rating," he said. "We have four acres here and the building has been designed so we can double the size if necessary," he said. DeVries said the company is both optimistic and confident it will be able to increase its business in the future. Future expansion of the plant was also a consideration when deciding on the right site, DeVries said. He said the plant, which employs 100 people, is "four times" the size of the 12,000â€"squareâ€"foot facility which the company had occupied in Mississauga. "We didn‘t want to lose our people, many of whom live on this side of Mississauga," said DeVries. Local dignitaries, including Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale and Halton Centre MPP Barbara Sullivan, as well as Canadian and Japanese officials of the company were on hand for the ceremonies, which featured a ribbonâ€" cutting, tour of the plant, reception with traditional Japanese food and a treeâ€" planting ceremony. DeVries said numerous factors were considered prior to the company‘s decision to move to Oakville. But the two primary considerations were location and availability of land, he said. He said Omron produces turn signals, switches, modules and relays for export to General Motors and Chrysler in the Omron, Canada‘s leading manufacturer of automotive electronic systems and components, moved its manufacturing operation _ from Mississauga to its new 50,000â€"squareâ€" foot facility in Oakville just two months ago, said Eric DeVries, the company‘s manager of engineering.
