So good luck in your new role as Prime Minister. The reality is that you are between a rock and a hard place. Our country has some very large issues to address but not much economic flexibility. It will require some very delicate balancing. Oh well, with time this hopefully will correct itself. this is not realistic because we do not have much room to maneuver. Our country has lived beyond its means for decades. Debt levels for the federal and provincial governments is $600â€"billion. Some continue to work but they conduct their activity in the underground economy. For several different reasons your revenue base shrinks. Taxâ€"paying companies and individuals leave the country. Of those remaining some use higher taxes as a disincentive to work. You don‘t want to raise taxes but unless you get the country back to work, we will suffocate economically. But then comes your worst fear. You raise taxes but tax revenue goes down. A. wellâ€"trained labor force must be supported by strong research and development. After all, we compete against other countries therefore we need a competitive advantage. So far so good. Solve the unemployment problem by providing better training and research and development. But there might be one small problem. Who‘s going to pay for this? Perhaps in your new role as Prime Minister you decide to raise taxes. Highâ€"paying jobs are the answer. We need highlyâ€"skilled workers that are well trained. For the good of the country, we must have full employment. But where do you find the jobs? What good is a work force that is not fully employed? Unemployed workers don‘t earn an income therefore they don‘t pay taxes. Plus the require financial assistance. It‘s like a doubleâ€"edged sword. Employment would be an important issue. Or should I say unemployment. Consider this hypothetical situation as your chance to decide how you would run the country. When the election is called you can compare your political solutions to those of the politicians. f ssume that you have a new job. You‘re the Prime Minister of Canada. Your objective is to run the country well. Reâ€"election is not a concern. Getting economy on track no easy task for new PM Two corporate mascots met to spread the United Way message.
