In 1992, it announced the Enâ€" dangered Spaces Action Program. Under this plan, the province‘s system of parks and protected areas will expand to include a representative sample of all natural regions in Ontario by the year 2000. Natural Resources Minister Howard Hampton Parks: Protected For All People _ Dickson, a government lands surveyor from Fenelon Falls, toured the area to report on the idea. Dickson liked it. He recommended creating a park, which drew the support of many members of the public. So in 1893 the Ontario government established Algonquin Park, Ontario‘s first provincial park. Over the last 100 years, Ontario‘s provincial parks system _ has grown to 63,000 square kilometres â€"â€" an area larger than Nova Scotia. And each year Ontario‘s parks welcome milâ€" lions of people, including visitors from around the world.
