Dear Oakville: An excellent way to explore Easter Island is on horseback. Several of us took advantage of this opportunity during shore leave. § At the same time as we were exploring the island, a Warner Bros. movie funded by Kevin Costner and directed by the director of "Robin Hood" was being filmed. Its title will be "Rapa Nui" and its storyline relates to the island‘s history. We were very fortunate to be able to watch them shoot a brief scene at 1:00 a.m. It was fascinating to watch the involved filming : [ process. There was another film crew on the island, there to film us! They were producing a feature lass Afloat, and filmed us on Ulass Atioat, and filmed us on the Concordia takin classes, _ performing > sal maneuvers (see: photograph), and on the island hiking up the volcano. After a day of less than professional acting for these various activities, we went swimming and were filmed jumping off the yard into the ocean. On our last day we explored an unusual aspect of Easter Island history, the Birdman Competition. The islanders would decide through a competition which chief of which tribe would have overall authority over all the tribes on the island. Every tribe would send one athlete. The I'â€"'_â€"â€"â€"_‘ competitors would go to a small islet off the I main island where they would wait for a stiff breeze and under full sail, headed for the Galapagos Islands. Public complaints sparked crackdown > committing an indecent act. Most were charged once while numerous othâ€" ers faced two charges and in one instance, the man was charged with four counts. Two others were also charged with anal intercourse. All 46 men charged are slated to make a first appearance in Oakville Provincial Court Aug. 24th. Fletcher said previous complaints about the park involved activities on the Our Oakville head offi ce staff, branch adventures, and continued 5 sailing. italian Specialties At Truly Modest Prices With Warm ‘Friendly Service 165 Cross Avenue, Oakville 842â€"1581 (Continued from page 1) HTALIAN RESTAL RANT park grounds while this time complaints seemed to focus on the washroom. Then they to swim back to the north island with the egg and scale the cliffs without breaking it. The leader of the first athlete to get back with a whole egg became the Birdman and the chief over all the tribes. We climbed up the cliffs to see the stone dwellings that housed the Birdman competitors. These stone Birdman dwellings were very low, with entrances about 2 feet square, and the general appearance of a shelter more suited to cliffâ€"dwelling sea birds than humans. s That afternoon we left Easter Island with a A Proud Sponsor supporting Sarah on her voyage Rovar LePAGE]| Until next week, said Fletcher. ""We just wanted to keep these people out of the park. It‘s a public park and the members of the public are entitled to it. It was getting so that people were almost afraid to use the park," said Fletcher. Police hope news of the investigation will deter others from similarly freâ€" quenting the park for illegal purposes. "We‘ll continue to check the park and if the problem continues, we‘ll have to continue with the video surveillance," Fletcher said.
