Ontario wineries attract tourists to Niagara area Judging from the guests I talked to during one of the "Meet the Wine Writers" series at the Marynissen Estate, Ontario‘s wineries have finally become a main attraction to the Niagara area. A steady stream of visiâ€" tors sampling and buying wines, not only from the southern Ontario area, but as far away as Florida and California came into the winery to ‘talk wine.‘ What better time is there than right now to take a tour through this most interesting area and visit a few winerâ€" ies for tastings that are usually free, or for a small fee, that is refunded as soon as you buy your first bottle of To start off your tour, I suggest that you take the QEW toward Niagara and exit at Hwy. 55 just past St. Catharines and head toward Niagaraâ€" onâ€"theâ€"Lake. A few miles down the road you will come to our first stop, Hillebrand Winery. The complimentaâ€" ry guided wine tour and tasting starts at 11 a.m. daily, while the wine shop is open as early as 10 in the morning. Hillebrand has some great wines, but make sure you don‘t miss their sparkling one. From here, you carry on toward the town and turn left at the Eastâ€"West line toward Lakeshore Road, also called Hwy 87, and turn right to head into Niagaraâ€"onâ€"theâ€"Lake. A few kiloâ€" metres down the road is Konzelmann Winery, a must on any trip. There is enough time left to visit two more wineries in one day and I would suggest that you head now through town and along the Parkway toward Niagara Falls. A few kilomeâ€" tres past town you come now to Reif Winery on your right. Reif has won a great many awards on the internationâ€" al scene and you may sample just about all the wines he produces. A very short distance down the road from Reif, turn right off the Parkway and you can see the beautiful buildings of the winery that started it all back in 1974, Inniskillin Winery. Of course, there was plenty of Ontario wine before 1974, but it was around Abbozzo Gallery hosts Jazz on the Wall, featuring artists Hilary Kyro, Cazal, Barbara Fostka and others, continuing until Aug. 15th.The gallery is located at 179 Lakeshore Rd. E. and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Call 844â€"4481 for more information. wishes to thank its corpoâ€" rate sponsors, donators of prizes and products and all the participants in makâ€" ing our 5th Annual Golf Classic at Carlisle Golf Country Club on June 24th such a success.
