"Out of 150, you might have only half of them that have a chance of playmg anywhere that will affect them," said Hussey. "If they re good, enough, (college and junior scouts) are going to look at them anyway." And Hussey says getting insurâ€" ance also won‘t pose a And with only about 150 AAA players in the MOHA system, Hussey does not see local teams affected by not being allowed to play in CAHA showcase tournaâ€" ments. "We feel that for the large numâ€" ber of kids we have (2,138), it‘s best we stay (with: OMHA). We feel the Central AAA loop has the best hockey other than the MTHL." In an interview, Hussey said that with 100,000 players still in the OMHA, Oakville players will conâ€" tinue to receive good competition without entering CAHAâ€"sanctioned events. ‘ At this point, 15 centres, calling themselves the Alliance Group; have broken away from the OMHA and joined the OHF, according to OHF minor chairman John Gardiner. Included in that group are, London, Kitchener, Cambridge, Richmond Hill and Vaughan. S The OHF falls under the Canadian Amateur Hocke® Association, meaning its members can take part in sanctioned tournaâ€" ments and be included in the CAHA‘s insurance program. As an independent group, the OMHA will not be allowed to play teams from other organizations, such as Metro Toronto or Northern Ontario, and will be forced to seek its own insurance. "MOHA understands â€"the impasse that has arisen in amateur hockey in Ontario and we recognize that the OMHA needs to play a key role in the safety and insurance, interaction with other amateur hockey organizations and the settle® ment of outstanding disputes." And in the latest political manoeuvre in the threeâ€"yearâ€"old feud between minor hockey groups, the OHF has instead offered mem» bership to individual centresâ€"â€" including Oakville. "We believe (this vote) best supg ports our primary goal â€" to foster, promote and teach amateur hockey within the Town of Oakville by proâ€" viding maximum opportunity for all eligible individuals to participate," Hussey said in a release. » The Minor Oaks Hockey Association is sticking with the Ontario Minor Hockey Associationâ€"despite the threat of being blacklisted for the 1993â€"94 season. The decision comes on the heels of a recent move by the Ontario Hockey Federation rejecting an application by the OMHA to join the governing body of minor hockâ€" ey in the province. ' But MOHA president Dave Hussey said his association unaniâ€" mously voted to continue its 25= year relationship with the OMHA.
