Robert Glasbey Advertising Director Norman Alexander Editor Geoff Hill Circulation Director Teri Casas Office Manager Tim Coles Production Manager For the sake of the taxpayers, call an election and stop the charade. As the new Prime Minister, Campbell has tried to distance herself from the past regime and has promised a new era in polâ€" itics. Her own actions, and those of the rest of her party, in burâ€" dening the taxpayers with the expense of an elaborate preâ€"elecâ€" tion campaign, however, speak louder than her worlds. Ian Oliver Publisher By inviting the unelected PC candidates along, the Tories have shown the tour is nothing more than a shameless preâ€"elecâ€" tion campaign ploy. If the Tories want to campaign for reâ€"election let them do it with their own money. The PC candidates are not elected federal officials and have no right joining the stage with Tory cabinet ministers on a govâ€" ernment tour paid by the taxpayers. Let them pay for their own election campaigns. What we find objectionable is the tagging along of many Progressive Conservative candidates â€"including Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale â€" for these taxpayerâ€"funded photo opporâ€" tunities. The concept behind the tour is not bad. Afterall, Cabinet Ministers and even ordinary Members of Parliament should get out and meet their constituents to hear what they have to say and tour the facilities which are vital parts of the communities. In Oakville the tour stopped at Menasco Aerospace, SmithKline Beecham Pharma Inc., Monencoâ€"AGRA and the Sir John Colborne Senior Citizens Recreation Centre. Along for the tour were Perin Beatty, Minister of External Affairs, Paul Dick, Minister of Government Services, Tom Hockin, Minister of International Trade, and Doug Lewis, Government House Leader and Minister of Public Security. For the Tories, at least, it seems to be working. Buoyed by the rise in popularity of the new Prime Minister the rest of her caucus decided to get in on the act and launched a Campbell Ministers‘ Tour of Hamiltonâ€"Mississauga Region which touched down briefly at several spots in Oakville, yesterday. running an election campaign, isn‘t it about time they called an election. For the past two months newly appointed Prime Minister Kim Campbell has been traveling across the country â€" at the taxpayers‘ expense â€" kissing babies, shaking hands, making speeches and even doing the twist â€" anything to raise her party‘s standings in the polls before calling an election. Do they want uninformed children? Why, in Toronto, they would receive formal instruction at school about this wonderful ‘alternate lifestyle.‘ Let‘s get with it, folks! This is 1993. Why would those parents expect that their tots should be able to use public washrooms for their intended purpose? Times have changed, don‘t they know? Imagine those nervy parents objecting to "gays" engaging in their sexual activity before the eyes of their young children. Those "gays" have rights, you know! Dear Sir: Nasty parents! Nasty police! Bothering those nice "gay" men for no good reason. Gays continue to con the politicians Emphatically, I â€"plead that the names of the men arrested in Shell Park should not be pubâ€" lished. No need for the mayor to resign Dear Sir: Re publication of names of people in Shell Park scandal. Ann Mulvale has, over the years, provided us with lots of evidence of her ability to make the right decision, and she will, undoubtedly, do so in this case as well. She has always been upfront with this community and has never given any reason to residents to be concerned with her motives. Dear Sir: The great debate indeed! (Janet Mitchell to the Oakville Beaver August 18th). More like the great tempest in a teapot! While Janet Mitchell and others are certainly entitled to the view that our Mayor should step down, I suspect that very few residents of Oakville would agree with her on this one.
