Within the conâ€" fines of the program, students would receive instruction from a young playâ€" er who is studying to be a music teacher and has assisted at the summer Suzuki sessions. The Oakville Suzuki Association‘s Jean Grieve has an idea, one that would not only help up and coming young music teachers, but parents who cannot afford the cost of private music lessons with an experienced instructor. Suzuki starts teacher apprenticeship program The apprentice teacher must have the ability to perform with good tone, posture and musicianship at least three Suzuki books or Conservatory Grades ahead of the students he or she intends to teach, says Grieve. The apprentice teacher should be continuing to study to improve comâ€" petence on the instrument unless he or she already has an ARCT or equivaâ€" lent qualification, and once every four to six weeks, the apprenticeâ€"teachers will bring their students to have a lesâ€" son with one of the experienced "Gifts" Lay Leader: Christi Pope All Ages Welcome â€"Nursery Provided Ministers: Rev. "Their students will also be eligible for the very valuable group lessons and helpful parent sessions run by our association and they will be encourâ€" aged to take part in the concerts and enjoyable musical and social events which provide such important motivaâ€" tion for practice," says Grieve. For now, the program only involves violin mainly because the longâ€"running violin program has more potential young instructors, says Grieve. Two of the participating apprentice teachers are 16â€"yearâ€"old Natalie Delic and 16â€"yearâ€"old Alison Long both of whom are anxious to participate and who have some teaching experience already, Alison having taught at The Hiâ€"Note for the past year. When you begin teaching, explains Grieve, there are so many things that are easy to overlook and unless you have constructive guidelines and instruction in teaching techniques, you cannot be of service to a student. Lakeshore Rd. at Dunn St. Downtown Oakville 10:30 a.m. WORSHIP SERVICE PRESBYTERIAN "Teaching people to feel and to move to the music...bowâ€"hand moveâ€" ments are so subtle," says Grieve. "There is also the tendency to go too fast, to go on to new pieces." The teaching of the skills neccesâ€" sary to play the violin is very chalâ€" lenging, she says. It is also necessary for young instructors to learn how to deal with the parents who are an inteâ€" gral part of the Suzuki method, learn how to educate the parent in patience, creativity and innovation with the ways in which the child learns. "Another thing is the teacher must have ideas on how to get the child to practise; the teacher is the main source for suggestions," says Grieve. Any parents interested in enrolling their children in this special Suzuki pilot program or the Music for Preâ€" Schoolers program (babies to 4 years old) or regular classes in violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, recorder or harp, is asked to call Grieve at 827â€"6737 or the Suzuki office at 338â€"7128.Also, violin players interested in advanced studies in more traditional instruction, should call one of the above numbers. 10:00 a.m. Morning Worship Nursery Available ALL WELCOME
