As a growing number of people move to urban centres, where apartâ€" ment and townhouse living has quickâ€" ly become the norm, there‘s an eyerâ€" growing need for people to experience nature,â€"even if it‘s only in the form of single plant or flower in their home. "No one likes a sterile environâ€" ment," Dytnerski said. "People want to see something that‘s green and growing," he said. The harsh Canadian winter is also amotiyafing factor when it comes to gardening. And it seems there‘s no end in sight as the popularity of gardening â€" already the number one hobby in North America â€" continues to bloom. According to Dytnerski, a marketâ€" ing major in university prior to his involvement in horticulture 15 years ago, several factors have contributed to the widespread popularity of garâ€" dening â€" which more people are turmnâ€" ing to as a tonic from the tough ecoâ€" nomic times and fastâ€"paced urban lifestvle. The biggest reason people are attracted to gardening, however, is that "it satisfies people‘s creative need," Dvinerski said. "Because our winter is so harsh, people really look forward to getting out there in the spring," he said. That renewed interest in areas of home improvement such as gardening has been a boon for Clargreen, celeâ€" brating its 75th anniversary, which is involved in all aspects of the business, water gardening â€" the latest trend â€" to interior plant sales â€" orchids top the list â€" to exterior landscaping. The business, purchased by Dytnerski and his partner five years ago, employs 100 people during the peak growing season, in six different departments: the garden centre, flower shop, interior landscaping, interior landscape maintenance, exterior landâ€" scape and exterior landscape mainteâ€" nance and snow plowing. And it seems there‘s no end in sight as the popularity of gardening â€" already the number one hobby in "Part of it has to do with the enviâ€" ronment. People want to plant a tree to help out with nature," said Dytnerski. "People are beautifying their properâ€" ties (because of the economic times) and they‘re becoming more sophistiâ€" cated with the types of products and techniques available. Gardening isn‘t as onerous as it used to be." he said. The only real requirement to become a gardening enthusiast is havâ€" ing one‘s own home, Dytnerski explained. Gardens, which come in numerous forms, are easily adaptable to the customer‘s particular needs. e tough economy has resulted I in a veritable wasteland of opportunities for some busiâ€" nesses. But for Clargreen Gardens, a large nursery located on Southdown Road just east of Oakville, it has been like an oasis of endless possibilities. 10 Interest in gardening |\\w& 88 of all kinds booming wki\W DGS Personnel in the Halton Region is pleased to announce the appointment of Lori Gradley, Personnel Consultant.
