o e on FridayFile â€" Presented by 'I;le Orakviller Beaver By KATHY YANCHUS Oakville Beaver Staff Ever get a bit nostalgic walking by the old Playhouse movie theatre? Step inside some night and those feelings will dissipate rather quickly. What building owners Steve Peros and Jack Granger have done to the Lakeshore Road East site is, quite litâ€" erally, out of this world. When the lights fade now, there are no curtains parting but lasers, optical illusions and the sensation of stepping into another galaxy. Sitting in a booth or around the bar with friends, listening to music piped through speakers, is apparently passe. The old roadhouses of a few years ago are now, for the most part, family restaurants. This is the 90‘s and young adults want black lighting, they want spacey, they want laser, and they want to dance, dance dance. They get all this and more at the Ozone The Playhouse‘s transformation began last fall when several truckloads of concrete were brought in to level the graded floor. Extensive new wiring was done to accommodate a full color laser, a disc jockey booth was built, dozens of folding chairs ripped out and artists were brought in to paint the largerâ€"thanâ€"life Gothic figâ€" ures that adorn the walls and eerily oversee patrons Patterned after clubs in New York and Europe, the Ozone is now an example, drawing other entrepreneurs searching for decor ideas There is a little Playhouse memoraâ€" bilia remaining like the movie screen, which is used as a backdrop for male and female gogo dancers, and the original popcom machine, not to menâ€" tion a few of those fabric theatre chairs both upsatirs and down The Ozone offers Oakvillians something different, says its personâ€" able general manager Joe DeCola "Nobody else has the ceiling height. You have to have height. A lot hn e°® LKG. Ozone nightclub out of this world 243 SPEERS RD. 8450837 of the lighting doesn‘t work for the first 12 feet. You have to have 25 feet," he explains.
